In just her second World Cup start of this 2012-13 cyclocross season, defending world champion Marianne Vos made it all the way to the top step of the podium. Racing a special midweek race in Zolder, Belgium, on Wednesday, the day after Christmas, the Rabobank rider piloted her Giant TCX Advanced SL to a convincing win, proving she’s right on track for her goal of collecting yet another world title at the 2013 Cyclocross World Championships in January.
Vos was joined in the top-10 by her Rabobank teammate Pauline Ferrand Prevot of France, who finished eighth. And in the elite men’s race, Lars van der Haar had another consistent top-10 performance, finishing eighth and holding his sixth-place overall World Cup standing.
Three days ago Vos lined up for her first World Cup race of the season, round 5 in Namur, Belgium. And despite crashing three times in the mud of Namur, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in road racing still finished third behind American Katie Compton. This time the tables were turned, as Compton crashed several times on the sandy course in Zolder. Vos, meanwhile, led from start to finish, saying afterward that her confidence is building for the upcoming worlds in Louisville, Kentucky.
